Overview
Island Hopper is an immersive Virtual Reality experience crafted during my time at the University of
Adelaide’s Realities Extended Unit. Built in Unity 3D, this project lets players embark on an
exhilarating journey, speeding through an archipelago of tropical islands aboard a speedboat.
Players navigate a series of checkpoints as quickly as possible, floating on a custom-built water
shader and physics system. Using Blender to create the required assets allowed me to experiment
with a distinctive art style, resulting in a streamlined yet stunning collection of island
landscapes optimised for VR performance. Enhanced by an immersive soundscape and dynamic lighting,
Island Hopper transports players to the open ocean, giving them a sense of every wave and bump as
they speed across the water.
